Place Name
Named after Henry Kipling, vicar of Plumstead and East Wickham, who inherited the manor farm of Plumstead from his father, also called Henry. The younger Kipling was educated at Harrow School and Emanuel College, where he studied Classics and Divinity. When he died in 1821 he left money for the Sunday Schools in the area.
