Place Name
After the village in Purley, it means the little place by the oak tree distinguishing it from Great Roke in Witley, Surrey. It was mentioned as Le Roke in 1550. The name may be much older however as an Adam atte Roke is recorded as living in the area in 1367 and there were field names le Rokegrofe and le Rokelond in 1432.
