Place Name
Probably named after John Latham, surgeon, ornithologist and antiquary, who discovered the Dartford Warbler also known as the Furze Wren. Latham was also the first to suggest the founding of the Linnean Society and was one of its original members. However, there is a second possible, though less likely contender, a Dr Latham, who lived in Park House, Bexley who is buried at St Mary’s. He was reputed to have killed highwayman at Dartford Heath in 1815.
