Remembering the Atwood family who inherited the Manor of Sanderstead from John Ownstead, when he died without any children of his own on August 9, 1600. He left two-thirds of his Surrey estate to his cousin Harmon Atwood and the remaining third to his sisters. By the time of his death in 1653 Harmon Atwood owned the whole manor. It remained in the Atwood family until Susanna Atwood, his great-granddaughter, married a Wigsell. The Atwood name survived the generations as it was adopted as part of the family.
