Place Name
Named after a former 17thCentury mansion that stood in Hayes until it was knocked down for suburban residential development in the 1930s. Pickhurst Manor, also known as Heaver Mansion, by 1693, was the property of Matthias Wallraven and remained in the family until grandson Peter sold it in 1757 to a William Cowley. It was sold eight years later to Mariabella Eliot, sister of a Mr J Eliot, who later took ownership, before it came into the hands of John Bowdler who held it from 1791 to 1813. Arthur Fitzgerald Kinnaird, 11th Lord Kinnaird (February 16, 1847 – January 30, 1923), who went on to become became the first President of the Football Association, lived at Pickhurst Manor as a teenager.
