Place Name
This takes its name from a corruption of the family name of Philip de Malevil, variously spelt Mayevil and Mayvil, who sometime around AD1111 let the first manor house in the area which was built by the de Rokesle (Ruxley) family. Malevil comes from the placename Malaville or Malleville in the Pays de Caux, Normandy.
