Place Name
In 1447 or 1448, King Henry VI granted the Bishop of Rochester the right to hold a weekly Thursday market and two annual fairs in the Charter Roll 25 and 26. This appears to have been an amendment to a much earlier market that was granted by King John in 1205 and allowed Bishop Granville, the right to hold a market every Tuesday throughout the year. The fairs at Bromley were, with the market and market house, let on lease by the Bishops, the last lease expired in 1862.
