Place Name
Keston was first recorded as Cystanings mearc in AD862, although there is little agreement among writers as to its exact meaning. It is assumed that there was a boundary stone or marker at Keston Mark. The first part may come from a Saxon landholder named Cyssi or Cysses. Although other theories are that it was named after a landmark or possibly an early name for Holwood.
