Place Name
Named after a former landowner Colonel Jackson who bought the lease for Simpson’s Place, a large moated manor house existing from at least the time of Edward I, in the early 19thCentury from Samuel Rickets. The road was previously named after the hamlet that it led to called Skim (or Skym) Corner, until it was changed to honour Mr Jackson, a long-standing resident of Bromley who owned the general shop and post office on the corner of Hastings Road. Although part of the road continued to be called Skym Corner for many years after the change. Alternatively it could be named after Joseph Jackson, an influential local figure who was magistrate and Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Kent, and leased Mayfield Place.
