Place Name
Named in honour of William Hayes Fisher, 1st Baron Downham or Lord Downham (March 18, 1853 – July 2, 1920), who was chairman of the London County Council between 1919 and 1920. Fisher was born at Downham, in the Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire. A Conservative, he held office as President of the Local Government Board and Minister of Information in David Lloyd George’s First World War coalition government.
