Place Name
This street gets its name from old Hundred, a term used for administrative districts from Anglo-Saxon times until the late Victorian period. Variously spelt Axstane, Achestan, Axston, Axstone, Axtane and Axton. This street’s name is another. In all it covered 15 parishes. In 1894, the Hundred was succeeded by Dartford Rural District, which was then created out of the same parishes, adding Wilmington and Crayford.
