Pump Court, EC4Y

Place Name

Named after a former water pump that was located in the centre of the courtyard. This is one of the oldest parts of Middle Temple being first laid out in 1625 although the oldest surviving buildings date from 1685. The pump was destroyed during the Second World War and not replaced, although the well that led to the water source served as an emergency water supply for the duration.
