Place Name

Named in honour of the Duke of York, George Frederick Ernest Albert (June 3, 1865 – January 20, 1936), the future King George V.  In 1896 he opened the second Leyton Town Hall. The road was developed in 1900. He is best known for founding the House of Windsor, when in 1917, he renamed from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as a result of anti-German public sentiment.
