Place Name

Named after the local area of East Wickham, thought to have been inhabited since at least Roman times. It is believed that the two words wïc and häm mean a homestead at a vicus, which was the smallest unit of ancient Roman municipal administration. It was recorded as Wikam in AD1240 and Est Wycham in AD1292.
