This name recalls the Vyner family, who were fomer lords of the Hackney manor of Kingshold. Sir Robert Vyner, (sometimes spelt Viner) (AD1631 – September 2, 1688), was sheriff of London during at the time of the Great Fire of London, and became Lord Mayor in AD1674. Like his uncle, Sir Thomas Vyner to whom he was apprenticed, he was a banker and goldsmith. His work included producing the jewel-studded replica of the Crown of St Edward and the King’s Orb, used for Charles II’s coronation in AD1661, the year he was appointed the king’s goldsmith.
