Place Name

Restoring the memory of John Strype (November 1, 1643 – December 11, 1737), who was born in Houndsditch. The son of a Huguenot weaver John von Strype, he became an antiquary, historian and parson. He is perhaps best remembered today for his work revising John Stow’s Survey of London, which he had published in 1720. The street was laid out over the site of Strype’s Yard which had been corrupted to Tripe Yard.
