Stonecutter Street, EC4A

Place Name

Named after the masonry works that took place here, probably from stone transported by barge to this point along the River Fleet, before it was covered over. It was first recorded in 1720, one of four stonecutter streets in the City, evidence of the large scale rebuild taking place following the Great Fire of 1666.
