Place Name

This follows the route of one of the first Roman roads to be laid out in Britain, leading from London to the legionary base at Colchester. The route crossing the River Lea at Old Ford, which was, until the construction of the Bow Bridge in the 12thCentury, the only crossing or ford across the river and so was a major road.
