Place Name

Owned by the church since the middle ages the property transferred from the abbots of Peterborough to the bishops of Peterborough following the dissolution of the monasteries in the reign of Henry VIII. The see continued its uninterrupted ownership until 1863 when it was sold it to the Daily Telegraph newspaper. Peterborough Court itself was not built until 1928 to a design by architects Elcock and Sutcliffe.
