The road’s width being worthy of note in the 12thCentury when it was first named. This was originally called plain Broad Street at the time John Rocque’s map from 1746 was published. It continued up to the London Wall, with New Broad Street being an extension outside of it. The prefix Old appears to have been added sometime in the first half of the 19thCentury.
