Natal Road, CR7

Place Name

Named after the South African region that came into British hands on May 4, 1843 after the British government annexed the Boer Republic of Natalia. It was the centre of the colonists’ sugar cane industry in the 1860s, which was farmed by labourers brought over from India, after the native Zulu population refused to work for the landowners.
