Place Name

Named after the Leytonstone-born poet and dramatist, John Drinkwater (June 1, 1882 – March 25, 1937). This was the location of the 1960s housing block John Drinkwater Tower. He was noted for a series of biographical works on famous historical characters such as Abraham Lincoln, Mary Stuart and Oliver Cromwell among others. His poetry included The Death of Leander in 1906. The street was created in a housing association development on the site in the late 1990s.
