Hodson Crescent, BR5

Place Name

This street name remembers the 17thCentury bellmaker Christopher Hodson, whose foundry was in St Mary’s Cray. During his life time he cast several famous bells including those for Canterbury Cathedral and Oxford colleges, including Great Tom of Oxford (which weighs six and a quarter tonnes), and the bells for the Chapel at Merton College.
