Place Name

Thought to be the shortest street name in the country. A hide or hyde was an old Anglo-Saxon term meaning a land-holding that was considered sufficient to support a family. This was equivalent to 60 to 120 old acres (approximately 30 modern acres). Before development in the early 20thCentury this was agricultural land on East Ham Level.
