In the 14thCentury this was home to a hermit Friar John Ingram, an anchorite or religious recluse,  who lived close to St Katherine’s Hospital between AD1371 and AD1380. By the 15thCentury however it became a public brewhouse and  the 18thCentury it was the Red Lion Brewery. The wall was part of the river wall.
