Hartington Close, BR6

Place Name

Named after William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire (May 8, 1720 – October 2, 1764), who was styled Lord Cavendish before 1729 and Marquess of Hartington between 1729 and 1755. He was a British Whig statesman and nobleman who was briefly nominal Prime Minister, serving under William Pitt’s leadership. This is one of a cluster of roads in Farnborough that are named in honour of former Prime Minsters and Radicals.
