Haling Down Passage, CR8

Place Name

Early spellings of the local area have it as Hallinges in AD1200 suggesting this may be the Healla’s village or Heall’s people but John Field in Place-Names of Greater London ¬†says it could also mean a “slope by a hall”. In either case the local area of Haling Park, saw the second part added much later. A D Mills in London Place Names suggests it might also be a manorial name from the de Halling family coming from Kent.
