Gwydor Road, BR3

Place Name

The name is thought to be a corruption of Gwydir, after Peter Burrell, 1st Baron Gwydyr, (June 16, 1754 – June 29, 1820) of Langley House. The Burrells owned large tracts of land around Beckenham. In AD1779, he married Lady Priscilla Barbara Elizabeth Bertie, the daughter of Peregrine Bertie, 3rd Duke of Ancaster, but is best known for being a founder member of Marylebone Cricket Club in AD1787.
