Frederick’s Place, EC2R

Place Name

Named after the wealthy merchant Sir John Frederick (October 25, 1601 – March 1685), Lord Mayor of London in 1661, whose home was here. He was the son of the Christopher Frederick, sergeant-surgeon to James I. From 1657 to 1658 he was a member of the Committee of the East India Company. When he died, he left a large portion of his wealth to various charities but there was still enough to establish his family as wealthy in their own right.
