Arno, a publican, from South Hackney, purchased the site at a time when the area was fast being developed for residential property. He laid out several streets, Avondale Road, Rochdale Road, Northumberland Road and Onra Road, which spelled out his family name. Onra Road also being his surname spelled backwards.
