Place name
Named after the Reverend Ralph Davenant, founder of the Davenant Foundation School, when he left £100 for the education of 40 poor boys of Whitechapel. He was Rector of St Mary’s in Whitechapel between 1668 and 1681, having been directly appointed by Charles II.
