Cowper’s Court, EC3V

Place Name

Previously called Fleece Lane and also Fleece Passage after an inn that was here until it burnt down in 1748. Its new name remembers Sir William Cowper who held property near here and whose son, also called William, became the first Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain, following the Union with Scotland.
