Cowley Close, CR2

Place Name

Named after the former owner of Heathfield Lodge, Samuel Norman Cowley, a successful cloth and linen merchant, whose business Cowley and Hewetson Cowley ran from 31 Gresham Street, in the City of London. When his partner died in 1825 he formed a new partnership Cowley and Sancton from 1825 – 1834 before he became a Master of The Worshipful Company of Clothworkers in 1835.
