Clave Street, E1W

Place Name

Previously called King Edward Street, the name commemorates haberdasher Thomas Clave from Wapping who left £50 to the parish in 1635. It was used to build two houses in nearby Cock Alley, the rent of which was to be given to the parish poor every Sunday and to the upkeep of the local chapel.
