Cavendish Avenue, DA15

Place Name

Named in honour of Henry Cavendish (October 10, 1731 – February 24, 1810) who discovered hydrogen, which he termed “inflammable air”. His work also included calculations of the density (and hence the mass) of the Earth. The road is part of the so-called Scientists Estate, of which other roads include, Darwin Road, Faraday Road, Huxley Road, Kelvin Road, Maxwell Road, Newton Road and Tyndall Road.
