Broad Street Avenue, EC2M

Place Name

Broad Street as featured on Ralph Agas’s woodcut map of London from 1561 gives some idea of why the street got its name

A turning out of Old Broad Street, which was originally called Brode streat and later New Broad Street. The road was first recorded in the 12thCentury, its width being worthy of note in the medieval City. This was called Broad Street Mews at the time John Rocque’s map from 1746 was published.
