Broad Street as featured on Ralph Agas’s woodcut map of London from 1561 gives some idea of why the street got its name

A turning out of New Broad Street, which itself was first recorded in the 12thCentury. The road’s width being of worthy of note in the medieval City. This was called Broad Street Street at the time John Rocque’s map from 1746 was published.
