Blyth Road, E17

Place Name

Named after Colonel James Blyth who was a director of Courtenay Building Ltd, the firm set up by and to develop Sir Thomas Courtenay Theydon Warner’s Walthamstow estate in the first decade of the 20thCentury. Blyth was Sir Courtenay’s cousin. Like all the neighbouring streets laid out by the firm it is named after people or places connected with Sir Courtenay. Bridge Road, Hitcham Road and Hibbert Road which similarly all developed and named by Warner Estates in the first decade of the 20thCentury.
