Place Name

Named after Offspring Blackall, also spelt Blackhall, (1654 – November 29, 1716), the brilliant but controversial preacher who became Bishop of Exeter and chaplain to William III. Blackall was born in Kingsland Road and many of his family are buried in Hackney parish church. Blackall was buried at the cathedral in Exeter where he also founded schools.
