Bastion Highwalk, EC2Y

Place Name

Named after the adjacent Roman bastion ruins, the bastion projecting out of the London Wall which was built at an angle to allow defensive fire in several directions. This was part of a network of ped-ways (pedestrian routes) that were planned by architects following the bombing of the Second World War which left much of the City devastated.
