Banner Street, EC1Y

Place Name

The Banners were a local family of tradespeople who are mentioned as living and owning property in the area in the Middlesex Land Registry records of 1789, the same year this street was laid out, originally with a square which had disappeared within a century. Among those featured in the record are Henry Banner, a carpenter, Mary, his wife, and Francis, their son, an upholsterer of Aldersgate Street.
