Angel Street, EC1A

Place Name

Named after a former coaching inn that was first mentioned as Angel Alley in 1649. It had changed to Angel Street by the time John Rocque was drawing his map of the city in 1746. The hostelry survived until 1840 when it was demolished like its near neighbour, another coaching inn, the arguably more famous Bull and Mouth.
